We recently acquired two cats that were the saddest things you have ever seen. They had obviously been on their own for quite some time. The person that found them knew they needed to no longer fend for themselves but they more needed a family to take care of them. The next thought that came into their minds was to bring them to us. When they came in at first there was some resistance from our current cat residences. They felt as though they had to give them the once over before the new comers were allowed to experience life in their new home. The night was a long one as we heard voting in the other room in the way of growls and meowing. By the morning they had come to a decision that they could stay. We knew their decision because they were all in one large pile in the small strip of sunshine that made it’s way through the blinds. We knew we needed to change some of the things that we had in our home to accommodate our growing population. The first thing we had to do was to buy more cat scratch trees. We had bought a couple of them a few years back. They quickly became one of our cats favorite things. They could get a running start and almost fly up and down them. We enjoy watching them play as much as they enjoy playing, Being indoor cats, they like scratch poles that I have provided. This gives the cats a lot of exercise. We were so surprised at how cat scratch poles had changed when we began shopping for them. We found one cat pole that actually looked like a tree. It had several hiding places which is perfect for a multi-cat household. It gives each their own private meditation spot. There are all types of cat scratch poles available now. You can choose the carpet colors to match your homes carpet so it will not stand out. They have all types of designs in the new cat scratch poles that are perfect for older cats. Some features we noticed were bigger areas so they are less likely to loose their balance and fall. The same is true for cats with disabilities. The large surfaces with the curved edges will keep a cat from falling and it signals our blind cats they are on the edges. Of course these features are also good for all cats to enjoy. If you have a multi-cat family they like to sleep in a pile sometimes and the larger spaces and hiding boxes allow many cats to sleep together or a bigger cat to really stretch out. Having several spaces in different heights at the top of the cat scratch tree allows cats to feel they are the top cat as they watch over their territories way down below! If you watch your cats play you can see them creating games which is entertaining to watch. The new cat scratch trees are made to last with a more stable design from just a few years ago. This is good news for those of us that have cats that really use their cat scratch poles! Although we have yet found anyone that has a cat that does not love their cat poles. Many of our friends put their cat poles in front of windows so their cats can enjoy the sunshine while laying on their cat poles for their long afternoon naps. After a game of top of the pole they get really tired.
